PRINTS - SHARON JONES and the DAP-KINGS

Working closely with Daptone Records since 2009, Jacob Blickenstaff has created many of the most powerful images of Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings that exist. He’s had intimate access to Sharon’s life as an artist, covering key performances, recording sessions, back stage action, and life on the road. He's shot work for 7 album covers on the Daptone label, including SJDK's Soul of a Woman, I Learned the Hard Way, It's a Holiday Soul Party, and the Miss Sharon Jones! soundtrack, as well as albums from Antibalas, Naomi Shelton, and The Como Mamas.

Beacon Theater, 2014 - As chonicled in the film ‘Miss Sharon Jones’, this was Sharon’s comeback show following her first round of treatment for pancreatic cancer. Sharon is side-stage moments before her entrance, all nerves, deeply drawing in to find guidance and strength for her performance, which she cared so deeply about.

Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings played the legendary Apollo Theater for the first time with a two-night run in May 2010. This image, affectionately called 'The Whip' by the folks at Daptone, was shot on the second night and has been used many times by Daptone as an image that distills Sharon’s energy on-stage down to a simple and powerful gesture. This photograph was used in the deluxe packaging for I Learned the Hard Way and also served as the basis for the cover of Soul Time!
